You will find a variety of keyword research tools on this website, below this page. I have tried and tested all of the products that I put on this website. I will almost never recommend a product I have not tried myself. Our rating system is based on a 1 thru 10 "hot or not" system. We take several factors into consideration when rating a keyword research tool, or any other product. We consider ease of use, accuracy, customer service follow up, and user friendly interface. The final factor in determining the overall ranking is "amount of keyword data provided". In other words: after all the bells and whistles turn off, how powerful was the information provided to you by the keyword tool.

Here is the breakdown of our rating system for each software, ebook, or product inside Keyword University. The final overall "hot or not" rating is determined by adding up the sub-categories.

1. Ease of use and overall feel. In other words, does the software feel wonky? Wonky means the user-interface feels tight, or unstable. It does not feel stable, or it crashes a little too much. This could be because the designer hurried through the programming, or that they hired a bad programmer:

2. Is there an ability to export data in a useful format. This means that I can extract my keywords or my html pages or whatever- and import them into other programs for other purposes. This rating only applies to programs, not ebooks.

3. Value Rating. Was the software priced fairly for what I can get elsewhere in comparison. In other words, did I get real value, or should I return the product because it is just like everything else. Can I get the same results (or better) with different or even FREE methods and keyword research or software tools? This category takes a complete consideration of all types of potential users including the different requirements they demand. Is the software useful to everyone? This includes SEO's (search engine optimization experts), niche miners, pay per click advertisers, and adsense publishers. The more categories of use the software or program covers, the higher the rating in this category.

Amit Singhal, head information retrieval engineer at Google claims that over 50% of the 200 million daily searches on Google are absolutely unique.

When I first heard this number,  it completely blew my mind. It also changed the way I looked at Search Engine Optimization and keyword research.

Over HALF of the daily keyword searches on Google are keyword combinations that have never been typed in the query box before. An example of a unique daily keyword query would be searches for the newest movie title combined with an actor's name in the string. This combination is new because the movie and the actor's name corresponding to the movie is new. An example below with Jodi Foster's movie "flight plan". What this really means is that people are looking for "brand new things" or that they are looking for the "same old things" only - in a different way. Wow.

Let us stop to consider what his actually means.

When you are performing market research for your website, you need to take into account the online behaviors of your ideal prospect or customer. Are they research oriented? Do they like lots of information or are they looking to buy now? Is it both?

This is especially important when researching your market for Pay Per Click. I will explain the significance of this in later tutorials, but if your ideal prospect is typing in all kinds of combinations of things that include your keyword phrase- you will need to be careful about bidding on the "broad" keyword phrase. You will discover that your are paying lots of money for a keyword that is being clicked by somebody in a completely different market.

Take the example below. The keywords "incorporating" and "Delaware" are extremely expensive to bid for on Google. In fact to secure the number one position (like TheIncCompany below) the keywords "incorporate in Delaware" are usually over 15.00 dollars (yes fifteen dollars) per click. That means if I click on the advertisement below (which I didn't because I am not rude) The Inc Company will be charged anywhere from 5 to 20 dollars per click. This is because the person running their Pay Per Click campaign decided to bid on the "broad match". This means that any time the word "Delaware" or "incorporating" appear in the query window, even if the query string is not related to "incorporating your business" they will pay the bid price. Ouch!

Obviously "incorporating free lunches into Delaware school systems" is probably not the ideal prospect for "the Inc Company" or "AmeriLawyer". While it may be impossible to completely remove unrelated market clicks, it is still a good idea to grow your list of EXACT match phrases in your PPC (pay per click) campaign. The PPC manager for their campaign needs to be careful of words like "incorporating" that have many other uses and purposes.
